Trying villanelle poetry for the 1st time

Some thoughts are like the Plague
They spread throughout the brain and cause disease in the body
Some feelings make your judgement vague

I try to call a truce, I try to give and take
But my cries seem to be heard by nobody
Some thoughts are like the Plague

I’m not controlled by my thoughts, make no mistake
I go about my day just like everybody
Some feelings make your judgement vague

But when it’s time to sleep, I lie wide awake
And all the thoughts that I held back take control of me
Some thoughts are like the Plague

I try to make sense of these feelings I want to shake
Because they don’t do any good to anybody
Some feelings make your judgement vague

I call them fevered delusions as they form into shapes
And make my ears bleed with their atrocity
Some thoughts are like the Plague
Some feelings make your judgement vague

  1. This is a great villanelle; and also a very relatable subject.
The refrain and rhyme structure really help create that sense of pervasive, repetitive and intrusive thoughts and feelings.
Great work; I really enjoyed reading this.
