I tried a face mask for the 1st time EVER!

People are like onions, their personality and aspects of their life shows in layers. Even an open book like me with her heart on her sleeve is full of surprises.

A lot of people are shocked when they find out that i have never worn makeup in my life, unless you count the time one of my dorm friends during university days put makeup on me and i looked like a clown 🤡 and i washed it off immediately. The reason why i don’t wear makeup, besides the religious reason of not putting decorative things on in public, and various friends telling me “you don’t even need makeup because your skin is so perfect” which FYI my skin isn’t so perfect anymore but has become dry and i get pimples sometimes too.

The main reason i don’t even wear makeup in the confinement of my own house nor in front of girlfriends is because i simply don’t like putting anything on my face. Apart from lotion which i occasionally wear, i don’t wear any form of makeup at all. That’s why when i decided to try a face mask, i was hesitant because it is a big deal.

I’d be putting something on my face!So i ordered 3 types of face masks, and i tried one of them last night.
It’s a bubble sheet mask with charcoal.

The benefits of this mask are:

Clears pores and removes impurities in just 10 minutes. The Charcoal works to cleanse deep into your skin to any remove dirt and impurities so you can say bye-bye to stuffed pores and hello to a fresh face!

So what i did was:

1. I washed and dried my face 1st, then i took out the mask.

2. I put it on and made sure it didn’t touch my eyes, nostrils or mouth.

3. It says to wait 10 to 15 minutes and if you know me, i don’t do well with idle hands, so i set a timer and did the dishes while i waited (not exactly the spa image you were expecting) and as it bubbled, i was freaking out. I figured, worst case scenario, my skin will peel off, so i crossed my fingers and hoped that didn’t happen.

4. After 12 minutes, i removed the mask and threw it away (it’s a single use mask).

5. Then i rubbed the rest of the liquid into my skin because that’s what it said on the package, and finally i washed my face with warm water and dried it.

Honestly speaking, my skin felt tighter, shinier and healthier after this mask.

I don’t know how often you need to wear this mask to get proper results, but i would definitely try this mask again in a month or so!

Self care ✔️

Have you tried a face mask before?
How often do you wear face masks?

I tried drinking more water for a week!

I don’t like water. There! I said it. It’s tasteless and i don’t find it enjoyable to drink. I don’t drink juice either except rarely. I don’t drink soda or energy drinks. I’m a coffee and herbal tea person. If i were to count my liquids throughout the day, that would be 2 cups of coffee, 2 cups of herbal tea, and 1 cup of water.

However, i know that water is healthy. I know that drinking water is good for your skin and overall wellbeing. I know that when you feel thirsty, then you are already partially dehydrated. I don’t feel thirsty easily, and when i do, i’m unable to drink a whole cup of water in less than an hour interval.

So in the spirit of the New Year and new beginnings and goal renewing, i decided to download an application to remind me to drink water and to track my water consumption (just water, not coffee nor herbal drinks) for a week and this is what happenned:

Did i drink more water? Yes, but apparently not enough.

Did i feel more energized? No, but apparently, i was more active.

Did my skin improve? No, it’s still dry.
Maybe my body wasn’t meant to hold water in, because i let it all out and ended up thirsty half the time, despite drinking more water.
Maybe i’m not used to drinking water so i need to try this for a month at least before i notice a difference.

However, i learned certain tips on “how” to drink water.
One thing i know for sure, i’m not deleting the app, and i recommend you download it too if you are having trouble drinking water like me.

What type of self-care do you need?

Some people shop as a way of self-care. Some wear face-masks and do bubble baths. Some read. Some watch tv shows.
There are blurred lines between self-care and over-doing it. Over spending and spending money you don’t have is not self care. Binge-watching tv shows all night instead of getting a good night’s sleep is not self-care. Slacking on your responsibilities to take a trip is not self-care.

There are different types of self-care, some of which are not very appealing to a lot of people. It’s called boring self care. I’ve seen a lot of posts on instagram about this. Examples of boring self-care are:
1. Taking a shower 🚿
2. Wearing clean clothes
3. Making your bed 🛏
4. Socializing
5. Avoiding toxic people
6. Cleaning your house 🏡
7. Tidying your desk or surroundings
8. Eating healthy food
9. Exercising
And the list goes on.

A lot of times when you are feeling down, as so happens when i am sick or moody 😏 i tend to neglect all of the above (except avoiding toxic people because i’m always avoiding them). So this time when i was sick for 2 weeks, i made sure i made my bed every morning and changed my clothes every other day. I made sure i put deoderant on (as i was unable to shower as often as i wanted on account of my sickness) and brushed my hair and my teeth whenever i remembered, no matter how drained i felt.

What brings me to this topic is that i’ve had a productive morning today. I cleaned my house, did everything on my to-do-list except exercising, but since after lunch time i’ve been on my phone so much that my son is practically begging me to spend time with him. So as much as reading and writing is self-care for me, i’m going to put my phone down so i can play with my son. When i’m done, i’ll resume writing this blog post.

Check out the shapes i made with my 4 year old. This is actually plasticine not play dough. Same concept. Less mess.

That lasted 30 minutes on and off. I don’t know what it is, but i don’t particularly enjoy play dough. I mean i get bored easily. I make a few shapes and i’ m done. Same goes for drawing and coloring. Maybe because these are kids stuff. I’m not one of those moms who can sit on the floor and play with her kids for hours. My limit is 10 minutes. 15 minutes max.

I don’t count boring self-care as self-care, and as an introvert, i need a lot of alone time. As much as i love my son and enjoy our time together, it drains my energy, so i find myself on my phone a lot. Maybe i’m addicted, but i’m working on it. Or am i? Hence the blog post.

I’m going to buy from these because i need something inexpensive in this economic slump if face masks are going to become a regular thing for me

Recently, i have developed pimples on my forehead, chin and cheek. I don’t know if it was due to my recent flu, or stress or unhealthy eating habits. I have always been a relatively unhealthy eater. I don’t eat much fast food or fried food, and i am no longer a chocoholic (i still love chocolate but i can now control myself) but my weakness is white carbs.

I eat all these except turmeric and salmon but i eat tuna so same?

Anyway, i have never been one to have a skin care routine because i didn’t need one (as i don’t wear makeup and i had neither dry nor oily skin) . Over the years, though, my skin has become drier and more oily at the same time. I know there are certain foods that promote healthy skin, but as i said, i’m struggling to eat healthy. I will try a face mask soon, for the 1st time ever, and i will let you know how it goes.
